SA / NEWS / VARTANANTZ
Vartanantz Celebration
The Battle of Avarayr was fought on May 26, 451 AD on the Avarayr Plain in Vaspurakan, between the Armenian Army under Vartan Mamigonian and Sassanid Persia. Although the Persians were victorious on the battlefield itself, the battle proved to be a major strategic victory for Armenians, as Avarayr paved the way to the Nvarsak Treaty (484 AD), which affirmed Armenia's right to practice Christianity freely.
The battle is widely seen as one of the most significant events in Armenian history. The commander of the Armenian forces, Vartan Mamigonian, is considered a national hero.
Our annual Vartanantz Celebration will be held on Thursday, February 4 at 10:30am. All grades will be participating in the performance.

BIO
I've lived in Armenia for over 3 years, where I work extensively in the field of women's health and rights. I completed my Master's degree in global public health and, shortly thereafter, received a Fulbright Scholarship to carry out research on women's reproductive health in Armenia. After my fellowship, I conducted several more studies and managed educational programs that targeted several hundred women and girls throughout the country. I currently work at the Women's Support Center, an NGO that assists women and children survivors of domestic violence and advocates for an end to gender-based violence. At the same time, I lead sexual education workshops with Armenian youth.
FAVORITE ASA MEMORY
There are so many that it's hard to choose from, but there's one memory that stands out from the rest: the day of the great flood. One afternoon, the whole school became flooded seemingly within minutes. I'm sure this was not a fun day for the faculty and Sisters, but it was certainly fun for us, as we were given recess for the entire afternoon. I also fondly remember watching the Magic School Bus in the library along with Yogi Bear in Armenian and old Armenian animations, including Պույ Պույ Մուկիկը and Գտնված երազ.
HOW HAS ASA AFFECTED YOUR LIFE?
So many of my dearest friends are my former ASA classmates. A few of these wonderful people have even visited me in Armenia over the last few years. I couldn't imagine my childhood without my formative years at ASA.
