The Ladies Auxiliary luncheon always offers a beautifully decorated room, fabulous raffle gifts and of course, a delicious meal. This year guests enjoyed an extra treat: a fashion show featuring the Academy’s seventh grade girls and their mothers. What fun! In another new twist, the 7th and 8th grade boys served as “waiters” for the afternoon, happily tending to the guests culinary needs.
This year the honor of Mother of the Year went to ASA grandmother Merle Santerian. Merle has always been active in Holy Trinity Armenian church and was also a founding member of PAND (Philadelphia Armenian Nor Daree) in addition to being part of the Academy’s Ladies’ Auxiliary. As a grandmother to 14, her priority is togetherness with her family, be it at the beach or Friday nights at “Camp Merle”. Her daughter-in-law, former ASA parent Silva Santerian, had only the kindest words about Merle. “Merle has been a role model for her children, grandchildren and community. Her determination and dedication have been inspirational and we are pleased that this well deserving lady has has been chosen as Mother of the Year,” she remarked.
The Montessori children recited poems (while blowing kisses!) and sang, followed by their 1st - 3rd grade schoolmates who also caroled. Thirty beautifully coordinated raffle prizes, generously donated by Mrs. Ani Semerjian, are always a highlight of the afternoon.
