Always one to stress the importance of reading, the Academy’s librarian Fran Torcomian used the occasion of Dr. Seuss’ 107th birthday to encourage students to do just that. Dressed as the well-known Cat in the Hat, Mrs. Torcomian enchanted the Montessori through 2nd grade audience with an enthusiastic telling of Green Eggs and Ham. While students enjoyed a “dress up” or non-uniform day, the theme of red and white complemented the tribute to author Theodor Geisel, who actually died in 1991 at the age of 87. Children with March birthdays were acknowledged with their own Dr. Seuss hat and the event wrapped up with the children singing “Happy Birthday” to one of their favorite authors.
