Ask any first through eighth grade student what happens last period on Tuesdays at the Academy, and their eyes will light up as they happily announce: “Club Time!” Why the excitement? For most of the academic year, those afternoons afford students an opportunity to learn outside the classroom. Sometimes children make choreg in cooking club, or learn about minerals and natural dyes in science explorations or even how to knit or dance. Students sign up for one ten week club and come away richer for the experience. Even if they’re participating in sports club, they learn to be better teammates or even how to lose gracefully. After all, as important as academics are, it’s just as important to learn life lessons, too.
