The excitement of Christmas was palpable in the Academy’s Hovsepian Activity Center as parents, grandparents, alumni and well-wishers filled the hall in anticipation of the school’s annual Christmas pageant. Angels, shepherds, innkeepers and kings - all under the age of seven - depicted the story of Jesus’ birth. Just as important were the roles of their first through third grade schoolmates singing in the choir and recounting the story in song. Each child’s individual role and talents came together to create a charming and captivating ensemble. Presenting a bi-lingual program of verse and song, ASA’s youngest students performed their well-rehearsed parts beautifully.

Their production was followed by the fourth through eighth grade students singing some lesser-known, but no less delightful, Christmas songs in Armenian and English. Instrumental accompaniment and harmonies added to the audience’s auditory experience.

The performances would not be possible without the above-and-beyond dedication of many teachers. Music teacher Mrs. Maroush Paneyan-Nigon worked untold hours with the students and provided piano accompaniment while Montessori Armenian teacher Ms. Ovsanna Sadjonian designed and sewed the hundreds of costume pieces. Devoted Armenian teachers Mrs. Danielle Jehanian and Mrs. Tamar Panosian enhanced their standard curriculmn to ensure such a wonderful presentation. Special thanks go to the faculty for their patience, cooperation and assistance in presenting the entire program, and especially P.E. and Health teacher Mrs. Carolyn Hyde-Gibbon for overseeing the stage crew. 

Fret not...although the Academy students are naturally excited about Santa’s arrival and the toys they hope to get, they are also well aware of the reason for the season. From the Academy family to yours, we wish you a safe and healthy new year!
