On Monday, June 22nd 2011 the Academy held its 22nd Annual Spring Scramble at Radnor Valley Country Club in Villanova, PA. Nearly 130 golfers enjoyed perfect weather and terrific playing conditions while trying to negotiate the rolling terrain and difficult greens of this Main Line gem.
Our golfers, joined by local celebrities Dei Lynam and Michael Barkann of Comcast Sports Channel, enjoyed a delicious barbecue buffet lunch on the magnificent clubhouse patio before heading out onto the course for the afternoon. Upon their return, participants were treated to a sumptuous dinner buffet, complete with Armenian appetizers and dessert prepared by many of the parents and friends of the Academy, in Radnor Valley’s beautifully appointed main ballroom. The Prize Presentation, Chinese, Silent, and Oral Auctions, and TV Raffle (won by Academy alumnus Raffi Setrakian) rounded out the day’s festivities following dinner.
Twenty-seven mens teams and five womens teams made the event one of the most fun and competitive in years. Top honors for the men’s scramble competition were claimed, with a 12 under-par score of 58, by Kevin Carlin, John Colletti, Allen Van Horn, and George Endrigian; while Kim (Santerian) Dunigan, Lisa Fazio, Susan McGrath & Cassandra Torian claimed top honors in the women’s scramble with a two over-par performance of 72.
Many thanks to this year’s Golf Committee, who worked tirelessly over the past several months to organize one of the most enjoyable and successful fundraisers for the Academy. Thank you to the many ASA parents, alumni, and friends who volunteered their time and effort making it a great day for all.
Lastly, a special thanks to all of the dedicated event sponsors and players alike, that supported this event and the Armenian Sisters Academy, this year and in past years; we are very thankful and could not accomplish the success we achieve without you!
The golf outing accounts for approximately 30% of all Academy fundraising and with each successful year we further solidify the future of our beloved institution.
