On May 28, 1918, Armenia declared its first independence. However, after only 2 years, they lost their independence due to the Bolsheviks. Armenia was forced to sign many treaties resulting in the loss of their territories and they became a Soviet republic.
On May 28, 1988, Armenians celebrated the anniversary of the first independence for the first time after more than 70 years of being under Soviet rule. During the elections of 1990, Armenia along with other countries voted for their independence and 78% of the people voted. Armenia still remained under control of the Soviet republic until its official independence on September 21, 1991.
On September 21, 2007, the students of the Academy celebrated the 16th anniversary of the Independence of Armenia with great enthusiasm. |
